Roland Jones, Jr. Obituary

Roland Lee Jones, Jr., 97, of Darlington passed away like he lived peacefully, on Sunday April 14th, 2024, at home. He was born in the foothills of North Carolina in the small town of Ronda on November 8th, 1926, the proud son of Roland Lee Jones, Sr., and Ossie Edwards Jones.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lee Coates Jones, two sons: Ken Jones and wife Sheila of Columbia, SC and Brian Jones with wife Sarah of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Also, one stepson, Alan Coates of Spartanburg, SC, two stepdaughters: Sharon Guy and husband Kevin of Gaffney and Sonya Horne of Boiling Springs, SC and his grandchildren Turner, Bo, and Hank; and step grandchildren Candice and husband Jonathon, Allison, Faith, and Jalen and great-grand, Lucy. He is reunited in heaven with his eldest son, Roland Lee Jones, III, younger sister Sarah Jones King, younger brother Lt. Col. Robert Samuel Jones, sister-in-law Colleen Darnell Jones and an infant brother.

Mr. Jones graduated from Elkin High School and Droughns Business School in Winston-Salem, NC.  For a number of years, he was a supervisor with Consolidated Credit Corporation of Charlotte.  After moving to Darlington, he became a real estate broker and appraiser.  Many in the Darlington community knew him best for his former business he owned and operated for over 20 years, the Credit Bureau of Darlington.

He was a man of few words, yet everyone always knew what was in his heart by his gentle smile and the sparkle in his eye that certainly was the window to his warm soul.

In the spirit of how he lived, there will be a private interment service on Thursday, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Grove Hill cemetery in Darlington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or, to the charity of one’s choice.
