Annie Cook Obituary

Annie Beatrice Adams Cook, the beloved wife of James Wyman Cook and loving mother of Anne B. Cook and L. Wyman Cook (Tracy) passed away on April 17, 2024 in her son’s home in Irmo, SC. In the quiet of the morning with her son near, she slipped away to be with her Lord and Savior leaving behind a legacy of 90 years of faithfulness. Beatrice, known fondly as “Bea” or “Ma” was born in Chesterfield Couty on April 11, 1934 to Hadley Adams and Verona Beatrice Reid Adams.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, James, her brothers Billy Adams, David Adams, and Kenneth Adams, sisters-in-laws Earline Adams and Pat Cook, her nephews Todd Adams, Eric Adams, and Ray Lambert, and her two best friends, Nell Holloway and Jimmie Lou Bertram. She genuinely cared for her family and friends, so each loss was deeply felt.

Bea left a legacy through her children, grandchildren, and all the children she taught at Kiddie Land Kindergarten. In her final years, she frequently shared stories of the kindergarten and her job at Darlington Veneer Company where she was able to proudly use her shorthand skills. She will also be remembered by many of her children’s friends who she filled with ham biscuits and brownies lovingly wrapped in wax paper and packed into old Lipton tea bag boxes. Boat rides and ski trips were fortified by those goodies.

She was especially proud of both her children, Anne and Wyman. Her prayers were consumed with request for protection and happiness for her children, brothers, and grandchildren. Throughout her lifetime she found delight in her five younger brothers and enjoyed her role as “sis”. In her later years, her grandchildren equally delighted her. Bea also enjoyed the fellowship and care provided by Pastor Blair Smith and all the members of First Baptist Irmo.

Over the last few years especially she has enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren, Summer, Charity, and Andrew. These years also provided opportunities for her to meet Summer’s fiancé, Chandler Huskey, who always had a smile and kind word. Chandler was also a good sport when Bea would forget which granddaughter he was dating. Her three grandchildren and Chandler poured attention and special care onto her, always holding her hand when she needed help. She was greatly thankful for the gift of her grandson, Andrew, who had a special way of making her smile. She enjoyed seeing them in person and on Facetime when they could not be nearby.

Bea leaves behind her beloved children Anne and Wyman, her brother Ray Adams (Ernestine) and Alvious Adams (Penny), and sisters-in-law Diane Adams, Peggy Singletary, and Toni Adams. Three amazing grandchildren Summer (Chandler), Charity, and Andrew. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her children will continue to be thankful for the constant support provided by Ernestine Adams, Penny Adams, and to the granddaughters, Summer and Charity using their compassionate skills in caring for their grandmother. They are also thankful for Andrew being faithful in making his grandmother feel special and loved in his authentic way. We also want to thank our cousin, Teresa Tallon who recently gave Ma the gift of fried apple pies that resulted in fond memories and sharing stories about her mother’s delicious pies.

We also want to thank the care provided by the staff on 7th floor South at Lexington Medical Center and for Dr. Capuano’s commitment to making Ma’s final wishes a reality. We are also grateful for the nurses with Agape Hospice who were there to help us through some of the most difficult moments.

The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm in Belk Funeral Home on Friday, April 26, 2024, with graveside services taking place at 2:30pm in Darlington Memory Gardens officiated by the Revs. Gerald McCants and Blair M. Smith.
