Thomas Preston Schurlknight (“Big T”), age 44, passed away on July 11th, 2020 surrounded by family.
Tom was born on January 17th, 1976. He was the son of Nancy W. Schurlknight and the late Leon I. Schurlknight Jr. He loved the Clemson Tigers and never missed a game. Well, “loved” is an understatement. He could practically tell you the score of every Clemson game ever played if you asked - the “unofficial statistician” as we always say. He loved his fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) and the brothers he gained from it. He also enjoyed coaching sports, his daughter in softball and his nephew in football. He thoroughly enjoyed his job as a real estate appraiser, allowing him to meet and work with so many people. Perhaps one of his favorite things to do was vacation with his wife Wendy, daughter Ryleigh, and son Matthew.
There were many great traits about “Big T.” One of the greatest was his dependability on always showing up. From sporting events, plays, pageants, and award ceremonies, you could count on Tom to be in the stands cheering you on.
Tom was the most kind and lovable person to be around. To those who knew him and loved him, he was known as “Big T.” He made the very best out of every situation and created an environment that made you feel like you were always welcome. After leaving a conversation with Tom, you left feeling like you were the only person in the room. 44 years of a life well lived and we’re grateful for every moment.
Tom is survived by his wife, Wendy Hubbard Schurlknight, and two children, Ryleigh Schurlknight and Matthew Gooden, his mother Nancy W. Schurlknight, sister Sheri S. Thompson (Matt), sister in law, Malinda, a nephew, Lee Schurlknight and two nieces, Laura Schurlknight and Savanna Thompson. Also, his aunt Ann (William) Sanders and Kathy M. Schurlknight. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon I. Schurlknight Jr. and brother, John L. Schurlknight.
A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Darlington at 11 a.m. on Thursday July 16th. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 Thursday in the Church fellowship Hall.
