Joey Dorriety

Joe “Joey” E. Dorriety, age 82, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 in a local hospital. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 in Lamar Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar.

Born in Florence on August 18, 1940, he is the son of the late John and Martha Wilkes Dorriety.  Mr. Dorriety served in the South Carolina National Guard for 6 years and retired from Wellman/FIBERS Industries after working there for over 30 years. He enjoyed cutting his grass, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sherrill Parnell Dorriety, two daughters; Tammy (Mike) Windham, Mechelle (the late Tony) Stevens, all of Lamar, grandchildren: Chris (Mary Beth) Windham, Joseph (Krystal) Stevens, Betsy (Calvin) Porter , 8 great-grandchildren, a sister, Nita (Gary) Anderson of Lexington, his brother, Mike (Ginny) Dorriety of Timmonsville, his mother-in-law, Ruby Parnell, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Wilkes Dorriety, granddaughter, Courtney Stevens.
