Jocelyn (Matthews) Sanderson

Jocelyn Matthews Sanderson, age 68, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024. A visitation will be held Monday, April 15th from the time of 6:00pm until 8:00pm in Belk Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place in Central Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 16th at 2:00pm, with interment immediately following the service in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Jocelyn was born in Florence on October 28, 1955, she is the daughter of the late George Matthews and Floree Abney Matthews. Jocelyn graduated from Francis Marion with a bachelor’s degree, and went on to be a school teacher. She loved working with the youth, which led her to being a teacher for 38 years for Darlington Academy and Thomas Hart Academy. Mrs. Sanderson was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church. She taught youth Sunday School and served as the Childrens Coordinator.

Surviving Jocelyn is her husband of 45 years, James “Jimmy” Sanderson, Jr., son, Jason Sanderson, daughter, Jamie (Daniel) Barnhill, grandchildren, Avery Sanderson and Willow Barnhill, and her brother, Everette (Cathy) Matthews. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Elizabeth (Eli) Blattner, step-grandchild, Ainsley Blattner, and her God children, Dawn Kirby and Tripp Stokes.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Centerwell Home Health for the care they gave Mrs. Sanderson.
