Joann Wood Sturkie

Joann Wood Sturkie, age 80 passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021. Joann was born in Denmark, SC to Kenneth and Pearl Wood on April 29, 1940. She Married the love of her life, McKendall “Kenny” Sturkie in 1958 and had four beautiful children. Joann loved her family and enjoyed traveling to anywhere with a beach or mountains.

She is survived by her four children, Terry (Debora) Sturkie, Freddy (Debbie) Sturkie, both of Darlington, Melba Ann (Sarge) Register, and Crystal (Billy) Hatfield both of Hartsville. Her 11 grandchildren, Teressa (Kelly) Wright, Ken (Andrea) Sturkie, Christopher (Amy) Sturkie, Candice (Brian) Nealey, Sandra “Sassy” (Kelvin) Wilds, Savannah Register (Marvin Commander), Harley (Brooke) Register, Haley Register (Gavin Larymore), Robert (Kristy) Register, Hartley Register and Haven Register; along with 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers Ronnie (Hilda) Wood and Randy Wood along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband McKendall “Kenny” Sturkie, her brothers Jerry Wood and O’Neil “Bubba” Wood and her sister Cynthia “Cindy” Register.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10th at Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Belk Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Crystal and Billy Hatfield where Joann resided, 2584 Swift Creek Rd. Hartsville.
