Jennie Lee Windham Kempson, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Friday evening, August 25, 2023. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 on Monday at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar. A graveside service will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 am in Lamar Cemetery.
Born in Darlington County on July 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Eula Lee Tolson Windham. Mrs. Kempson worked as a secretary for many years, working at Lamar First Baptist Church and Carolina Bank. She was an excellent baker and cook, and the consensus among the grandchildren is the spaghetti and the corn that she prepared were the top two favorites. Mrs. Jennie loved animals, especially her cats, and was quick to help a stray when needed.
She is survived by her children, Chip (Jeannie) Kempson, Timmie (Jimmy (who was like a son to her) Bell, all of Lamar; her grandchildren, Brad (Misty) Kempson, Carmen (Trey) Watson, April (Rod) Watford, Jason (Taylor) Bell, Brittany Kempson, Jason (Susan) Richardson and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, R.C. Kempson, her son, Jeff Kempson and brothers, Mack and Punk Windham.
The family expresses their thanks to Agape Hospice and a special caregiver, Barbara Bacote for their love and care during this time.
Memorials may be made to the Darlington County Humane Society, PO Box 1655, Hartsville SC 29551
