Helen (Hill) Lee

Mary Helen Hill Lee, age 87, formally of Lamar passed away on July 1, 2021 in Birmingham, AL. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home in Lamar, with burial following in Byrd Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 Saturday at the funeral home in Lamar.

Born on May 6, 1934, Helen was the daughter of the late Thomas Hill and Pearl Huggins Hill. She was raised in Lamar, SC and later moved to Wilmington, NC. She worked as a receptionist for State Employees Credit Union until her retirement. Helen later moved to Birmingham, Alabama to be closer to her family. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC, and served in the ministry alongside her husband, Bobby Lee.

Surviving are her children, Barbara Helen Benton and Lawrence Willis Lee, Jr., both of Birmingham, AL; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Priscilla Bochette of Florence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence “Bobby” Lee; brothers, Willard Hill and Rhett Hill; and sisters, Betty Kirby and Annie Lou Stewart.
