Garrett Gainey Obituary

Garrett Allen Gainey, age 30, passed away Saturday evening, February 24, at home with his family by side. A funeral service to honor his life will beheld in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home at 3:00 on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. A burial will follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 on Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at his brother’s, 721 Morocco Street, Darlington.

Born in Florence on July 1, 1993, he is the son of Allen Wayne Gainey and Donna Lloyd Gainey. Garrett started working at the age of 18, contracting with TMS at NUCOR , before being hired permanently by NUCOR Steel. He loved his family more than anything and sweet ole honey pie. He also loved his new AT4, boy was he proud of that truck. He always made sure to head straight to the baseball field to watch his boys play after work; never missed a game if he was able (when he wasn’t sick). He made sure to make time for his family at his dads’ famous shop with westerns or NASCAR playing in the background; grilling, laughing, and cutting-a-fool. On his days off, you would either find him in the backyard shooting hoops with all the kids, in the deer stand, at the gun range, fishing with his family/friends, riding his 4-wheeler (whether alone or taking the kids for a joy ride), or playing his guitar. If you knew Garrett, you knew he loved music, concerts, AND you knew he loved his guns, knives, and anything tactical/survival. You might even have some; he had such a generous spirit, if he liked you. Even if he didn’t, he’d give the shirt off his back for you, for anyone. He’d let you know where he stood, without hesitation; but he truly did have the biggest heart. Those that were able to witness his soft side; you knew you were special to him.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Lauren Evans Gainey, twin boys, Sterling and Kaston Henning, brother, James (Carrie) Hampton, grandmothers, Eugenia Adair and Maxine Gainey, his nieces and nephews, Brittany, Caydence, Zoey, Jordan and J.J., and his canine companion, Honey Pie.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Lloyd and Tollie Gainey.

Memorials may be made to ST. Jude’s Children Hospital 501 St. Jude Place,  Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org
