Emogene Rogers Fryar, age 85 died Thursday, May 26, 2022. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31st in the Lamar Chapel at Belk Funeral Home with burial following at Will of Faith Southern Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born on June 16, 1936, Emogene was the daughter of the late Leo Rogers and Emma Hudson Rogers. She worked for Dixie Cup; and then for Smurfit Stone in Winston-Salem, NC. Emogene helped start the Area Rescue Mission with her husband, the late Rev. Billie Fryar, which is now known as House of Hope. She later worked at MJ Mack Cleaners until the age of 83. She enjoyed gardening, and her family and Rescue Missions were near and dear to her heart. Emogene was a member of West Florence Baptist Church.
Surviving are her children, Fred (Kathy) Fryar of Rainelle, WV, Janice (John) Kaess of Jacksonville, FL, Steve (Teri) Fryar of Thomasville, NC; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephews; special cousins, Pam, Callie, Eva Mae and Sandra; and a special family friend, Harold.
In addition to her husband, Rev. Billy F. Fryar, Sr., she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph Rogers and Bud Rogers; sister, Jackie Shealy; and a grandson, Aaron.
