Bobby R. Gibbs

Bobby R. Gibbs, age 79 passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 8th at First Baptist Church in Timmonsville with burial following at Lamar Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar.

Born on November 2, 1942, Bobby was the son of the late Grady Gibbs and Elise Gowdy Gibbs. He retired from Suburban Propane Gas Co. in Timmonsville after 38 years. Bobby loved working in his yard, gardening, and was known for his barbeque. He was a member of Woodmen of the World, and also a member of First Baptist Church in Timmonsville where he served as a Deacon, taught adult Sunday school class for over 40 years, and served in many other capacities.

Bobby is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Carolyn Watford Gibbs; sisters, Pat Brickett of Conway and Mary Spigner of Florence; brother, Charles (Janice) Gibbs of Timmonsville; sister-in-law, Martha Gibbs of Columbia; many loving nieces and nephews which he adored; his “adopted son”, Paul Booth whom he referred to as “my boy”, his wife Nancy and their children Caden and Grayson, who were all very special to him; and a special friend, Cotton Evans.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Gibbs and Hagood Gibbs.

The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers, Wanda Wilson, Lakeshia MuCullough and Towanda Martin; special nieces who were also caregivers, Rhonda Fender, Macey Cooper and Cheryl Langston. Also a special thanks to his life-time friends and neighbors, Hamer and Ann Parnell for all their support during Bobby’s illness.
