Willie James Windham

Willie James Windham, age 88, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, October 17, 2024. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 19th in Lake Swamp Cemetery at 2:00pm. The family will greet friends following the service for Mr. Windham.

Willie was born in Darlington County on March 1, 1936, to the late Clarence Windham and Mattie Marie Watford Windham. Willie graduated from Lamar High School and joined the South Carolina National Guard. He worked for Sonoco in the Spiral Department for many years until his retirement. Mr. Windham always enjoyed working in his yard and riding around town. He was an avid Lamar Silver Fox fan and loved all sports.

Surviving Willie are his five children, Chris (Wendy) Windham, Greg (Patsy) Windham, Paige (Larry Porter) Windham, Dawn (Mark) White and Heather (Kevin) Galloway, grandchildren; Hunter, Austin, Mason (Kaycie), Eddie (Ali), Grant, Daniel, Cameron and Ali; great-grandchildren, Maddox, Claire, James, Easton and Vivian. He is also survived by his siblings, Ruby (Ray) Bailey, Clarice Clifton, Mary Alice Shoemake, Mattie Ann Poston, Robert "Shot" (Linda) Windham, Carl "Dagger" (Cindy) Windham and a special caregiver, Cynthia Samuel.

In addition to his parents, Willie is preceded in death by his wife, Mahala Howell Windham, siblings, Clarence "Candy Ball" Windham, Virginia Atkinson, Edie Atkinson, Harold Windham, Ted "Peter" Windham, Ned Windham, John B. "Moto" Windham and a grandson, Hampton.
