Wilds "Evans" Howle, 80, of Darlington, SC, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held at St. Matthews Church located at 210 S. Main Street in Darlington on Thursday, June 26th, 2025 at 11:00am conducted by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the home of Evans & Cathy after the service.
Born on August 30th, 1944 in Darlington, Evans dedicated his life to learning, service, and entertaining his family and friends. A proud veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War before returning home to pursue a career in education. He earned his Ph. D. from the University of South Carolina and went on to become a college professor of Business and Economics, he shaped the minds of countless students.
Evans had a lifelong passion for hunting down and collecting—whether it was antiques or his cherished Brooklyn Dodgers baseball cards, each piece reflected his deep appreciation for history. He also had a deep love for music, especially Motown Soul & Oldie Goldie's. Known for his mischievous sense of humor and quick wit, Evans could bring laughter into any room.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine Riley Howle; his children, Samuel Wilds Howle and Alexina Evans Howle; his daughter-in-law, Carissa Carie Howle; and three grandsons, Wilds 11, Watson 8, and Wrigley 4, who will carry on his legacy with pride.
Preceding him in death are his parents: Edward & Rosa Howle, sister Jayne Pearlman and brother Ed Howle, Jr.
Evans will be remembered not only for his service, but also for the joy he brought to those lucky enough to know him. He leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and wild memories.
Memorials may be made in his honor to St. Matthews Anglican Church at 210 S. Main Street, Darlington, SC 29532 or a charity of one's choice.
