Walter Earl Gibson

Walter Earl Gibson Sr., age 78, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, March 16th at Swift Creek Baptist Church with burial following at Darlington Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM Saturday in the church fellowship hall. Mr. Gibson was born on August 8, 1940. He was the son of the late William D. Gibson and Grace Sparrow Gibson. Walter served in the U.S. Navy, and then retired from Sonoco Products Company after 45 years. He was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club and the American Legion in Hartsville. He enjoyed fishing, camping and working with his church. Walter was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Barbara O. Gibson of Hartsville; daughter, Cindy (Ernie) Brazell of Florence; son, Walter E. (Anne) Gibson Jr. of Buffalo, NY; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Mathis; brother, Billy Gibson, and sister, Pat Wills. Memorials may be made to Swift Creek Baptist Church, 413 N.
