Walter Woodrow Blackman

Walter Woodrow "Woody" Blackman, Jr., age 82, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, July 16, 2023. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 20th at 2:00pm in the Blackman Family Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.

Woody was born in Darlington on November 22, 1940 to the late Walter Woodrow Blackman, Sr. and Dorothy "Dot" Smith. He worked as a machinist for over 30 years until his retirement. Woody was a member of the National Rifle Association and loved collecting guns. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and driving the tractor.

Woody is survived by his wife of the home, Gloria C. Blackman, three children; Walter "Walt" (Gina) Woodrow Blackman, III, Denise (Curtis) Boyd, Stacy (Tammy) Blackman, step-children; Kim (Grady) Gulledge, Kevin King, Wendy (Jon) Adkins. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jamie Blackman, Will Blackman, Carly Fleming, Bella Blackman, Benjamin Boyd, Austin Blackman, Brittany Blackman, step-grandchildren; Jamie Evans, Haven Evans, Keith Shepard, Ethan Shepard, Lydia Adkins, several great-grandchildren and siblings, Jimmy (Lanette) Blackman and Penny (Doug) Goss.

In addition to his parents, Woody is preceded in death by his favorite horse, Diamond, who died in 2021.
