Virginia Howle Coleman

November 19, 1920 — October 17, 2018

Virginia Coleman passed away Wednesday morning, October 17, 2018. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20th at Welsh Neck Baptist Church Cemetery in Society Hill, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Born in Society Hill, SC, Virginia is the daughter of the late J. Adger, Sr., and Janie Jackson Howle. She grew up in Society Hill, and then lived in Darlington for the last 43 years. She was formally married to the late Son Ross, and then to the late Dr. Marshall Coleman. Virginia was the longtime owner of Virginia's Beauty Shop in Society Hill. She was a member of Welsh Neck Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church in Darlington. Surviving are her son, James (June) Ross; her sister, Jane Mayhew; sister-in-law, Joanne Howle; grandchildren, Tom (Jill) Ross, Didi Ross, and Jamie Ross. Also surviving are a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Adger Howle and Wilcox Howle; her sister-in-law, Tootsie Howle, and her brother-in-law, R.E. Mayhew. The family would like to give a special thanks to her long-time friend Marie Alston, her neighbors Doris Mims, Laura Burns, and Jane Stephens. Also a special thanks to Gene Weaver and Grace Blackman.
