Vernon L. Grooms

Vernon L. Grooms, age 102 died Wednesday, January 26, 2022. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 28th at Lamar Memorial Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and family from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at his home, 201 Rogers St. Lamar, SC.

Vernon was born in Morgan, North Carolina on January 2, 1920. He was the son of the late Tom and Elizabeth Grooms. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII; and retired from Sonoco Products Company. He was a member of Will of Faith Church in Lamar.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Grooms; son, Garris Grooms; a daughter, Deborah Moore; five grandchildren, Shawn Sharpe, Dustin Sharpe and wife Jennifer, Cammie Grooms, Chastity Cox, Fairlynn Bruce and husband David; two great-grandchildren, Harley Cox and Kade Sharpe; and a sister, Margaret Mancil.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Freeman; four brothers, Thomas Grooms, Walter Grooms, Prentice Grooms, and Allen Grooms.
