Terry McKendall Sturkie, Sr., age 65, of Darlington, SC, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on September 1, 1960, in Florence, SC, to McKendall "Kenny" Sturkie and Joann Wood Sturkie; Terry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend whose impact on the lives of those around him will be felt for years to come.
Terry was a man of many passions, notably known within the drag racing community for his love of speed and adrenaline. He cherished the thrill of the race and the camaraderie shared with fellow racers. Additionally, Terry found great joy in camping and bass fishing, relishing the beauty of nature and the tranquility it brought to his life.
Professionally, Terry dedicated many years of his life to the refrigeration industry, serving with distinction at Pee Dee Supermarket Service. His expertise and dedication made him a respected technician in his field, reflecting his work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Terry is survived by his devoted spouse, Debora "Debbie" Sturkie; daughter, Teressa (Kelly) Wright; son, Terry (Jenni) Sturkie, Jr.; grandchildren, Jacob (Hailey) Morris, Jalyn (Summer) Morris, step-grands Gabe and Eli Jimenez, brother, Freddy (Debbie) Sturkie; sisters, Ann (the late Sarge) Register and Crystal Hatfield; beloved mother-in-law, Mary Altman, special friend and business partner, Johnathan Croom, and of course, his canine companions/"other daughters", Saydi and Ugly. His family will dearly miss his warmth, humor, and unwavering support.
Funeral services honoring Terry's life will be held on Tuesday September 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Flat Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 2951 Society Hill RD. Prior to the service, friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Belk Funeral Home on September 15, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Burial will take place following the service in the church cemetery.
In this time of mourning, we remember Terry not only for his accomplishments but for the love he shared with his family and friends. His spirit will live on in the cherished memories we hold dear, and his influence will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
