Sidney T. Jordan Lamar - Sidney Thomas Jordan, age 89 passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016. Funeral services will be held 3:00pm Sunday, April 24th in the Lamar chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following at Newman Swamp Cemetery in Lamar. Born September 24, 1926, Sidney is the son of the late Annie Watford and Wade Leonard Jordan. He served as a U.S. Merchant Marine. Sidney worked for DuPont for 27 years; and then for Chesterfield Lumber. Sidney was a founding member of the West Florence Volunteer Fire Department and served on the county fire board for 30 years. He was a member of Newman Swamp Southern Methodist Church in Lamar. Surviving are his daughter, Myra Jordan and his son, Chris (Brenda) Jordan, both of Florence; his grandchildren, Matthew, Cristina, Zach, Josh, and four great-grandchildren; his brothers, Francis Jordan of Florence and Leonard Wade "Pee Wee" Jordan of Lamar; his sisters, Louise Branham of Columbia and Agnes Amerson of Sumter. Sidney was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Hester Rogers Jordan; his daughter, Madeline Jordan; and his brothers, James Elbert Jordan and Pete Jordan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Sunday at Belk Funeral Home Lamar Chapel. The family would like to give a special thanks to his brother Francis Jordan and to James Starling for all their years of help for Sidney. Memorials may be made to Newman Swamp Southern Methodist Church, 645 Lee State Park Rd. Lamar, SC 29069, or send donations to the DuPont Retirees Wheelchair Ramp Fund.
