Sidney Howell Boyd, Jr.

Sidney Howell Boyd, Jr., age 75, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family early Wednesday morning. A funeral service will be held at Darlington Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 8th at 2:00 pm. The family will greet friends following the service in the McCown Building at the church.

Born in Spartanburg on May 20, 1948, Sidney was the son of the late Sidney Howell Boyd Sr. and Vivian Martin Boyd. He graduated from AC Flora High School and then attended SC Bible College and SC Banker's School. He was then hired by C&S Bank in Columbia, which ultimately led to him being made a Vice President and City Exec at C&S in Darlington. Mr. Boyd continued in the banking business until 1994, when he went to work for Bristow Oil Company. up to his retirement in 2014. While there, he was active in the S.C. Petroleum Marketers Association where he was proud to serve on the board for several years and as President in 2011.

Sidney was very involved in the community, having served as Kiwanis President in 1987. He was instrumental in starting the Darlington Carol Lighting Service, the Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association, and the Green Flag Club at Darlington Raceway. Sidney also had a lifelong interest in law enforcement and served as a State Constable for over 20 years.

Mr. Boyd was a strong man of faith. He was active in his church, Darlington Presbyterian, having served in many capacities including Deacon, Elder and Sunday School Superintendent.

Other than serving his Lord Jesus, Sidney's family was his top priority in life. He was an adoring husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Naylor Boyd, two daughters, Mandy (Lee) Bass of Darlington and Sunny Boyd of Charlotte, two grandchildren: Boyd and Mills Bass, a sister, Bonnie (Jim) Edenfield of Greensboro and his sister-in-law, Jan (Ric) Simenson of Nashville.
