Sara (Horne) Sylvester

Sara Horne Sylvester, age 90, passed away on August 3, 2024 surrounded by her family. A visitation will take place at Northgate Baptist Church in Florence, SC on Wednesday, August 7th from the times of 1:00pm until 2:00pm. A funeral service will follow the visitation in the church at 2:00pm, with burial taking place in Darlington Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors at her home, 3822 Dover Drive Florence, SC 29501.

Sara was born in Marlboro County on April 15, 1934, she is the daughter of the late Willie Eugene Horne and Mamie Shoemake Horne. Mrs. Sylvester worked at Union Carbide, ESAB for 27 years until her retirement. She loved gardening, cooking, traveling and walking at the mall with her friend, Delores. She was a member of Northgate Baptist Church for over 50 years..

Sara is survived by her two sons, Phillip (Diane) Sylvester of Hartsville and Terry (Wendy) Sylvester of Florence, her grandchildren, Billy (Angel) Sylvester, Pat (Kim) Sylvester, Phil (Roni) Sylvester Jr. Jennifer Gainey, Meg Sylvester Davis (JD), Kristin Sylvester Poston (Shane), Dale (Kristen) Sylvester, Adam Sylvester, along with twelve great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Jones.

In addition to her parents, Sara is preceded in death by her loving husband of 73 years, Eugene Lewis Sylvester, her sons, "Little Gene" Sylvester and Steven Sylvester, brothers David Horne and Donald Horne and sister Gladys West.
