It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruby Mae Gainey Gandy, who departed this life peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the age of 90.
A visitation will be held for Ruby on Monday, October 27th, 2025 at Belk Funeral Home, Darlington from 1 to 2 pm. With funeral service following in the chapel at 2pm. Interment to follow at Berea Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born on November 10, 1934, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, to the late Tollie and Toie Mae Gainey. Ruby was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her unwavering love and dedication to her family. Ruby was a devoted homemaker whose nurturing spirit and kind heart left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth and generosity of spirit created a welcoming home, where cherished memories were made and laughter flourished. Ruby's legacy lives on through her children: Judy (Joe) Hayes, Marie (Dennis) Watkins, Louise (Jimmy) Davis, Sally Gandy, Susie Blackmon, and Leroy Gandy. She is also survived by her dear brothers, James and Pete (Pat) Gainey. Her many grandchildren: Joyce Cheek, Amanda Blackmon, Jody Hayes, , Ruby Taylor, Will Taylor, Laney Graves, Regina Graves, along with her special grandchildren Stacy Blackmon and Dennis (Mallorie)Watkins, III, great-grand Andrew Cheek and many more great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death is the love of her life Thomas H. Gandy, her parents, son Wiley Gandy, her 8 baby boys that passed at birth, her sister Sally Windham, brothers: William Wylie, James Leonard, Tollie "Boy", Raymond, Robert Lee, Johnny, and Ronnie Gainey. Ruby's life was a testament to the power of love and family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
