Roy James Veitch

Roy James Veitch Jr., of Florence, passed peacefully Saturday, March 11, 2017. Roy was born March 20, 1929 in Chicago, IL to the late Roy James, Sr. and Eva Flavan Veitch. He was a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology. On August 23, 1952, Roy married Margaret Stateler in Park Ridge, IL. His work as a safety engineer for DuPont USA brought the couple to Florence, SC where they raised six children. Mr. Veitch was a devout parishioner of Saint Anthony Catholic Church. He and his wife welcomed many of the parish's priests into their home. He enjoyed playing tennis with his friends and golf with his family. Survivors include sons, Mark, Scott (Joye), John (Deb), David, and daughters, Marie Edwards and Teresa (Danny) Wilds. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Kristen (Lee K.) Howard, Matthew (Bryson) Kennedy, Charlie, Christopher, Chloe Wilds, Maxwell and Jackson Veitch; and one great-grandchild, Margaret Bly Howard. He has one surviving sibling, Jean Bachmann of Park Ridge, IL. Mr. Veitch is now reunited with his parents, siblings, beloved wife, and their many pet dogs. A Funeral Mass will be held10:00 AM Wednesday, March 15th at Saint Anthony Catholic Church, with a private internment following in Florence Memorial Gardens. A Funeral Wake will be held from 9-10 AM Wednesday at the church, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Saint Anthony Catholic Church, 2536 Hoffmeyer Rd, Florence, SC 29501.
