Ronald Ashton Smith, age 100, passed away on Saturday, June 21st, 2025, surrounded by his family at the Veterans Village in Florence, South Carolina. Born on May 14th, 1925 in Badin, North Carolina. Ron lived a life devoted to service and family.
As a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill during World War II, and many years in the South Carolina Army National Guard. Ron served his country with honor and integrity. After his military service, Ron became involved with the newly emerging telecommunication industry beginning his work life with Horry Telephone Company, and later as the southeast customer relations salesman for Power Telephone and Supply Company in Memphis, Tennessee.
He is survived by his daughters: Patricia Hartley of Conway, Susan (Ricky) Johnson of North Myrtle Beach, and Rhonda Blackwell of Myrtle Beach; grandsons Jay and Cory Johnson, and Brandon Blackwell. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jackie Oswald, of Columbia, South Carolina.
Ron never wavered in his commitment to living life fully. His unwavering positivity and resilience were an inspiration to everyone he med and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of the Veterans Village for the kindness, support and care shown to Ron during his stay.
