Robert Leon Kirven, Jr., affectionately known as "R.L.," passed away on December 6, 2024, surrounded by family. He was born on January 27, 1936, in Florence, South Carolina, to the late Robert Leon Kirven and Sarah Jane Edwards Kirven.
A proud retiree of Sonoco, R.L. spent many fulfilling years working in the spiral department. He shared a deep bond with his beloved wife, Mary Louise Norwood Kirven, with whom he raised two wonderful children, Kim and Robbie. R.L. was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting hogs, training his hunting dogs, and relishing the beauty of the Pee Dee River. His passion for life and love for the outdoors will forever be remembered by his family and friends.
R.L. will be greatly missed by his cherished family, including his daughter Kim Elizabeth Kirven McInville, son Robert William "Robbie" (Sherry) Kirven, stepson Mike (Tammy) Yarborough and his family, and his beloved grandchildren: Mary Gretchen (Noah Tyson) McInville, Lindsey Elizabeth McInville (Matthew) Cote, Mary Krista Kirven (Devonne) Copeland, and Robin Kimberly Kirven (Payne) Parker. He will also be lovingly remembered by his great-grandchildren: Blake, Walt, Lucille, Mary Helen, Daxton, and Palmer, as well as his sister Arcola Kirven Stokes and his dear roommate "J.J." at Oakhaven.
R.L. was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Louise, and second wife, Joyce C. Kirven, his siblings: Paul Franklin Kirven, Evelyn Marie Kirven, Lesley Willard Kirven, Mary Elizabeth Kirven Lloyd, Cecil Jerome Kirven, Lewis Delmer Kirven, Lula Virginia Kirven, Lola Lottrell Kirven. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A celebration of R.L.'s remarkable life will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 2 PM in the Belk Funeral Home Chapel in Darlington, SC. Family and friends will gather following the service to honor his life and share fond memories together.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the wonderful caregivers and staff at Oakhaven for the loving care provided to R.L. over the years, as well as the compassionate team at MSA Hospice in Florence.
