Robert Edward Joye

Darlington - Robert "Robbie" Edward Joye, Sr., age 75, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 26th at Freedom Baptist Church in Darlington, with burial following in Lamar Memorial Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Born September 8, 1942, Robbie is the son of the late James Layfette "J.L" Joye and the late Hugh Ernestine Tallon Joye. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1963, and then worked at Sonoco for 30 years. Robbie was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Darlington and served as a Sunday School Teacher. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. Surviving are his wife, Gloria W. Joye of Darlington; his children, Sheila (Van) Dowling of Lamar, Robert Edward "Eddie" Joye, Jr. of Lancaster; his grandchildren, Bud (Brandi) Dowling and Alex Dowling, both of Lamar; his great-grandchildren, Charlie Dowling and Campbell Dowling; his step-children, Trent (Genia) Avin of Darlington and Michael Donavan Avin of Tennessee; his step-grandchildren, Ashley, Gracie, Rian, Xander, and Tristian Avin. Memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, 1416 Lamar Hwy, Darlington, SC 29532.
