Robert Gainey, Sr. passed away on February 25th, 2026. A visitation will be held at Belk Funeral Home in Darlington, Saturday, February 28th, 2026 at 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Funeral services will be Sunday, at 2:00pm at Flat Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
Robert was born on April 17th, 1949 to Pete and Geneva Gainey in Darlington, South Carolina. He worked at Nucor for around 14 years or so then became a logger for EJ Bryant Logging. He was a charter member of Flat Creek Free Will Baptist Church, loved his church immensely, praying, fishing in his younger years, and working in the yard and taking care of his chickens.
He leaves behind his sons: Robert “Rod” Gainey, Jr. and Russell (Tiffany) Gainey, and grandchildren: Dalton (Sabrina) Gainey, Cadence Gainey, Aidan Gainey, Ansley Gainey, and Bella Gainey. Great grandchild Morgan, brother and sisters: Ronnie (Anita) Gainey, Lela Tyner, Blanche (Heyward) Gainey.
Preceding him in death was his loving wife Peggy Lee Gainey, his parents Pete and Geneva, his daughter in law Sheryl (Rod) Davis Gainey, along with his siblings: George, John, Vance, Roosevelt “Coot”, and Grover. Robert will be missed dearly by those he loved. Also a special thank you to the staff of Medford Nursing home for the care given to Robert during his stay.
