**Obituary for Robert James Buie**

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert James Buie, who departed from this world on December 10, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on September 26, 1944, in Darlington, South Carolina, Robert lived a life rich in experiences and dedication, embodying the spirit of a true craftsman and devoted family man.

Robert was an accomplished tanker driver, proudly serving the oil industry for Smith Oil Company. His work was not just a job for him; it was a reflection of his commitment to providing for his family and his community. He also had a passion for paint and bodywork, finding joy and satisfaction in bringing vehicles back to life. Robert’s skills were not limited to the road; he also contributed to his community through his work with Sumter Utilities, showcasing his unwavering work ethic and ingenuity.

He is survived by his children, James "Jimmy” (Kim) Buie, Brad (Linda) Buie, David Buie, and Nikie Buie, nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, as well as his brother, Gerald (Bettina) Buie. Each cherished this remarkable man, who navigated life's challenges with strength and grace.

Robert’s family invites all who knew him to join them in honoring his memory. A visitation will take place at Belk Funeral Home Lamar Chapel on December 14, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Robert will be laid to rest later that day in Lamar, South Carolina, where his family will gather to celebrate a life well-lived.

In this time of grief, may we remember Robert for his warmth, generosity, and the impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by: his wife Patricia Buie, parents Palmer Buie and Pauline Jordan Buie and siblings: John, Jim, Palmer, Wilson, Julian, Raford, Ronald, Paul “Kistler” and Hazel B. Thompson.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 on Sunday, December 14, 2025. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
