Richard McKnight, 61, husband of Peggy Barnes McKnight, passed on Thursday, December 21, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. Richard resided in Olive Branch, MS but came home to spend his final time surrounded by family and friends in Darlington, SC, where he passed away after a brave 6 year battle against cancer. Richard was born in Darlington, South Carolina, the son of the late Brunson and Mildred McKnight. Richard worked at Peoples Natural Gas in Darlington, SC and then as a Maintenance Manager in Florence, SC and Mt. Pleasant, SC with Steven D. Bell Co., prior to his retirement in 2005. Richard moved to Olive Branch, MS in 2008 where he currently resided. Richard loved being with family and friends and will be remembered for his ability to always make someone smile and laugh with his special sense of humor. He loved spending time with family and friends, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, Uncle and friend. Richard enjoyed fishing, listening to Music and watching Nascar, but most enjoyed time spent with loved ones and always making people smile and laugh. Richard is survived by his wife, Peggy Barnes McKnight of Olive Branch, MS, daughter's Kaysie (Joey) Powell of Florence, SC, Bridget Bonds of Darlington, SC, Jordan McKnight (Michael Looney), of Olive Branch, MS, and son, Travis McKnight of Olive Branch, MS, brother's Laverne (Faye) McKnight of Darlington, SC, Jay D (Dannette) McKnight of Sumter, SC. Sister's, Dorothy McKnight of Hartsville, SC, Connie McKnight of Camden, SC and Mary Holloway of Darlington, SC. Grandchildren, Logan, Kursten, Bryce, Chandler, Makenzie, Maci, Addisyn and 2 great grandchildren. Richard is also survived by In-Laws Mary Ann Barnes, Dentison Barnes, Steve Barnes and Tammy McKnight and many very special and loving nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his sister's Mildred McKnight, Shelby (Johnny) Anderson and Brother, Ronnie McKnight. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Laverne and Faye McKnight in Darlington SC. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at 2 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 3 PM in the Chapel at Belk Funeral Home in Darlington, S.C. The family suggest donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
