********Visitation will be from 6-8 Monday at the funeral home, not Thursday as printed in the newspaper.********* Priscilla "Dolores" La Cross, 74, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 16, 2017 a McLeod Health in Florence, SC. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 on Tuesday, September 19, at the Lamar United Methodist Church, with burial following at Lamar Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Born April 5, 1943, in Lamar, SC, she was a daughter of the late Keith P. Hicks, Jr. and the late Elsie Windham Hicks. Dolores was a member of the Lamar United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 30 years and she was active in the Lamar United Methodist Woman. Dolores retired from the Darlington County School District after over 18 years of service to the children of Lamar. She was also a member of the Friends of the Lamar Library. Dolores was a devoted wife of 47 years to her late husband Marty La Cross. She was a loving and selfless mother of three sons: Randy (Pam) La Cross of Florence, Corey (Michell) La Cross of Lexington, and Craig La Cross of Lamar. She experienced the joy of being a caring "Noni" and serving as a role model of God's love to 4 grandchildren: Tyler (Melissa), Jonathan (fiancé Jessie), Megan (Ryan), and Brandon; and 3 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Martin, and Jesse. Dolores loved her Lord and served Him faithfully. Her work in Lamar United Methodist Church, a church she loved deeply since childhood, and her church family were a great source of pleasure and strength. God used her to be a blessing through her card ministry and her daily interactions with friends, family, and even strangers. Dolores's faith was evident in the compassionate life she lived. Dolores was an avid reader and writer leaving a legacy of journals to her family. She loved giving inscribe books to family, friends, and others. Dolores loved God's nature and creation. Her yard is adorned with blue bird houses and beautiful flowers. She loved caring for her cats and her very special canine companion "Bleu." Dolores was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan La Cross. She is survived by a brother, Keith P. Hicks (Veronica), a sister Sherea (Harmon) Greenway, several nieces and nephews, and very special cousin and best friend Fran (Mrytis) Knotts. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Belk Funeral Home, Lamar. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lamar United Methodist Church or the Friends of the Lamar Library Park.
