Phyllis Louise Wood

Phyllis Louise Wood, age 94 passed Friday, August 5, 2016. The family will be holding a private memorial service directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Belk Funeral Home. Born March 7, 1922 in Taunton, MA; Phyllis is the daughter of the late Reginald Mendell and Elizabeth Thomas Mendell. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Cape Cod School of Nursing where she then worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years. She was a member of the former Dartmouth Chapter of the Eastern Star and served as their Worthy Matron. Phyllis also served as a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the church choir for Pilgrim United Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles, and knitting. Surviving are her daughters, Elizabeth Peterson of New Hampshire and Rosamond (Ronald) Boykin of Darlington; her grandchildren, Andrew (Amanda) Boykin, Stephen Boykin, Adam Boykin, Jonathan (Theresa) Peterson; her great-grandchildren, Shanin Boykin, Ashlee Boykin, Andrew Boykin, Jr, Timothy Peterson, Nicholas Peterson, Amanda Peterson, and several great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald Mendell of Fairhaven, MA, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Stephen Wood; and her sister, Eleanor Worsley.
