Peggy Morrell Joye, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. A visitation will be held in Belk Funeral Home in Lamar on Saturday from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm following the visitation in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home Lamar, with burial following the service in Lamar Cemetery.
Peggy was born in Darlington County on April 5, 1948 to the late Charles Morrell and Elizabeth Gilbert Morrell. She worked as an associate at the Wal-Mart in Hartsville. Peggy loved people and never met a stranger. In her free time she enjoyed fishing. She was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church.
Peggy is survived by her children: Karen (Randy) Parnell of Lamar, Denise (Chad) Porter of Hartsville, Lisa Gilbert of Hartsville, Cindy Chapman of Hartsville, Bill Joye of Hartsville, step-children, Sallie (Mike) Barnes of Florence and Patsy (Mike) Boyles of Lamar, grandchildren: Chris, Jeffrey and Bryan Gilbert of Hartsville, Ashley Huggins of Hartsville, Jerry Chapman of Hartsville, Randy Parnell of Lamar, Jennifer Bryant of Florence, Barry Bryant of Florence, A.J Atkinson, Tiffany Atkinson, Andrea (Elijah) Boykin of Hartsville, Kandence, Kam and Kamden Joye of Hartsville, Heather Mcleod of Florence, and a number of great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Rosalie Newville of Charleston and C.W. Morrell, a special family friend Devin Raines and her loved canine Shorty.
In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, James William Joye, Sr., sisters, Mildred Lynch and Joanne Morrell, and brother, Ronald E. Morrell.
