Patricia Cook Singletary

"Patricia "Peggy" Cook Singletary passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on October 15, 1941, in Darlington, South Carolina, Peggy was the daughter of the late Luther Wyman Cook and Eunice Horton Cook. Peggy lived life to the fullest, overcoming childhood rheumatic fever and going on to an active life as an athlete, coach, educator, dog trainer and devoted wife to the love of her life, Jack Singletary. She had a strong faith, knowing and trusting her Lord and Savior even when Alzheimer's robbed her of other memories.

When she was a senior at St. John's High School, Peggy won the 1959 Miss Darlington competition. Peggy was a proud dog mom to many poodles but was especially proud of Porter, her standard Poodle, who won many awards, including the National Free Style Competition in 2004 and the WCFO National Champtionship in 2008. Peggy earned her Masters from the University of Tennessee after attending Winthrop College where she played basketball. She spoke French and was also fluent in American Sign Language. Peggy wrote biblical stories for children that were published in Sunday School and vacation bible school materials. Peggy also wrote and choreographed "dancing with dogs routines". Peggy and Jack lived in the Shandon/Rosewood community in Columbia, SC where they had many friends who shared their many hobbies.

Surviving Peggy is her brother, Parry (the late Patricia) Cook, sister-in-law, Paticia (Pennell) Clamp, and brother-in-law, Sammy (Joyce) Singletary, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, William "Jack" Singletary and her brothers James (the late Beatrice) and Charlie Cook."
