Nellie Windham Amerson

April 16, 1939 — January 4, 2024

On January 4, 2024, Nellie Windham Amerson joined her Heavenly Father.

Surviving Nellie are her husband of 63 years, William "Bill" Amerson, their daughter, Kathy Pratt, their grandchildren, Tripp and Peyton Pratt, her brother, Hillery Windham.

She was preceded in death by her son, William "Little Bill" Amerson, Jr., her brothers, Franklin, Baites, Clay, Troy, and Neil Windham, and her sister, Ruth Ann LeBase.

Nellie was born April 16, 1939, in Lamar, SC to Ruth and Ervin Windham. She graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, SC and was employed by James Rivers Corporation until retirement.

Nellie loved her husband William, who was her best friend and her partner in life. Nellie loved her children, Kathy and Bill, and her son-in-law, Jimmy. And she especially loved her grandchildren, Tripp and Peyton, who she would say were "her heart".

Nellie was an active member of Newman Swamp United Methodist Church, and you could hear her voice singing from the choir every Sunday before her recent illness.

Nellie was a tremendous cook, and her favorite place in the world was her kitchen, and she was best known for her holiday fruitcakes and her chicken and dumplings.

Nellie loved shopping, decorating for the holidays, and spending time with her family at the beach.  She was fiercely independent and loved to laugh. She had an infectious smile, a fantastic sense of humor, and a huge heart for helping others. She made everyone she met feel loved and welcomed. She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the dedication, support, and professionalism of so many caregivers along the way, with special thanks to Virginia, Delores, Nora, and Bonita; the nurses Amber and Emily from Centerwell; and Dr. Michael Barrett and staff at Lamar Family Care.

Nellie is now in her Eternal Home, full of joy being with Jesus, her many family members, and especially her beloved son, Bill.

A visitation will take place at 2:00pm Sunday, January 7th in the sanctuary of Newman Swamp United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow the visitation in the church at 3:00pm, with interment following in Windhamtown Cemetery.

Donations can be made in Nellie's honor to Newman Swamp United Methodist Church c/o Sherry Rollings at 937 Windham Town Road, Lamar, SC 29069.
