Mike Weatherford passed away on Monday, September 14th, 2026. A memorial service is being held for him Monday, September 21st, 2026, at Magnify Church located in Hartsville, SC at 6:00pm.
Mike Weatherford was born and raised in Darlington, South Carolina, in 1972 to Michael and Ernie Weatherford. Mike was not a man that you often described as knowing just in passing. Most of those who met him had the privilege of becoming a friend through the way of his boisterous and generous personality. There was not a room that Mike couldn't liven up, or at least make a bit louder. Mike never met a stranger in his 54 years, whether it be someone in an elevator, at a table beside him, or a kid on a baseball field. Among his favorite people were his baseball players, many of whom still lovingly recall his no-nonsense coaching methods, and the love that came at the core. There were few people that Mike met and didn’t open his heart to. He was a welcoming and loving person; giving many people a space at his table, in his home, and in his heart no matter who they were or where they came from. Mike had a way of giving even the most boring person a funny story to tell; whether it was at work, riding in his lowrider in the nineties, or something as simple as sharing a bite to eat. Mike lived in Hartsville for over ten years but remained the biggest fan of Darlington, in both the city it was and what it could become. Mike enjoyed going to breakfast every Saturday with his daughter, and for a couple of months, his ‘grandbaby’, as he often called her.. Mike was the most eager eventual grandparent out there, asking his kids at least once a month when he could become ‘Papa Mike’. He had many granddogs and grandcats, all of whom he loved as much as his own. Mike had a way of always finding a new animal at least once a year, usually a chihuahua if he had anything to do with it. Mike was the proud owner of Pee Dee Junk Removal, where he provided services and relief to families in times of need. He always had a soft spot for people, though you might not know if you didn’t look for it. There was a lot of Mike that the average person didn’t see, but every part was lovable. There wasn’t anyone Mike couldn’t make laugh, and the world will be a little quieter without him here.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Michael Weatherford, his late wife, Christy Weatherford, and his loving dogs, Bear and Dandy. Mike is survived by his wife, Tracy Weatherford; His children, Trey Weatherford (Jessica Campbell), Fox Weatherford (Elisabeth Weatherford), Cameron Weatherford, Brittany Gandy, and Ashley Prentise; His mom, Ernie Ann Weatherford; His sister, Kelle Weatherford; and his beautiful granddaughter, Penelope.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Darlington County Humane Society.
