Maxine Elaine Patterson

November 25, 1930 — August 11, 2022

Maxine Voss Patterson, 91, of Darlington, died on August 11, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Esther Voss.

A private graveside service will be held Sunday, August 14 at 11:00am at Grove Hill Cemetery, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Patterson was born on November 25, 1930 in Freeport, Illinois. She was the sister of Roger Voss and the late Dale and Laverne Voss. She attended the University of Iowa, where she met her late husband, James M. Patterson, II. They moved to Darlington in 1955 and were married for 57 years. Mrs. Patterson studied and became a Registered Nurse. This career choice was perfect for her as she was a compassionate lady with a servant's heart. She enjoyed taking care of those who were sick and in need. She was employed by the Darlington Area School District as a School Nurse for 30 years and spoke with fondness and love for the children she served during those years.

Mrs. Patterson, along with her husband, attended First Baptist Church Darlington. She served as a gifted Sunday School teacher, WMU chairman, Prayer Coordinator, choir member and Deaconess. She served locally as a volunteer for hospice and internationally through EDEN Ministry giving untold hours of cutting fabric for African ladies.

She was known as a precious, gifted, powerful prayer warrior. If she ever sensed that there was a need, she would pray "on the spot", calling on her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. No prayer request was too small to take to the Lord. After retirement, she enjoyed visiting shut-ins in the community. She was known for her delicious egg custard. She was a dear soul, who will greatly be missed.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Pierce (Earl), Jim Patterson (Melanie), Beckie Potterfield (Jeb) and Lorie Harris (Kynn). She had 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her four children believe the greatest gift a mother can give her children is her prayers. They will forever be grateful for the prayers she gave them knowing, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16.

Memorials may be sent to EDEN Ministries, 1110 Blacky Court, West Columbia, SC 29170.
