Mary Anne Harris Sansbury, 90, passed away on December 1, 2016 after a brief illness. She is survived by her children: Clevie (Tony) Daniels of Ypsilanti, MI, Andy (Patti) Sansbury of Spartanburg, Dan (Joye) Sansbury of Hartsville; and Susan (Artie) Hall of Managua, Nicaragua; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mary Anne was a native of Anderson, SC and the younger daughter of Leon and Susan Harris. She graduated from Winthrop College in 1946, and began teaching physical education in Darlington schools that fall. She married Paul A. Sansbury, Jr. in June, 1947. They built a home on Greenway Drive in 1951 and raised their family on that remarkable street with several dozen "baby boomer" children born to the Word War II generation. Mary Anne taught Red Cross swimming classes to two generations of children and youth, as well as leading her two daughters' Girl Scout troops plus a den of Cub Scouts. She was a member of the Darlington Presbyterian Church until 1991, when she became a member of Lamb's Chapel, Florence. She wrote a weekly column featuring testimonies of faith of area people for The News and Press for over twenty years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Sansbury, her sister, Margaret Meetze of Heath Springs, SC and her brother, Bill Harris of Manning, SC.
Friends are invited to remember Mary Anne with the family at a time of visitation from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Belk Funeral Home on Friday, December 9. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, December 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a graveside at Grove Hill Cemetery. Her pastor, Rev. Lonnie Curl, Lamb's Chapel, and her son, Dr. Dan Sansbury, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Hartsville, will lead the services.
The family wishes to thank her many excellent caregivers at the Morrell Rehabilitation Facility, Carolina Pines Hospital and McLeod Hospice House.
