Martha Louise Hough West

Martha Louise Hough West, age 87, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026 surrounded by her family.

A visitation will take place at First Church of God in Darlington from 2 to 3:00pm on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026.

Followed by a funeral service at 3:00pm. Interment will follow the funeral service at the Florence Memorial Gardens.

The family will also receive friends at the home of Mrs. West, 935 W Smith Ave. Darlington, SC on Tuesday, May 12th, from 1pm-6pm.

Martha was born in Kershaw County on August 2, 1938 to the late Lewis Chester (LC) & Clara Louise Hough.

Martha was a member of the First Church of God. Even though she wasn’t able to attend due to health issues, she loved the visits from her church family & friends. Her daughters would also like to thank the lady's ministry for supporting her with cards of encouragement & well wishes. Each card brought a smile & was put out on the mantel for all to see.

Martha worked in retail & the Florence Girl Scout office.

She loved a beautiful yard, flowers, decorating her home, glass bottle cokes & ice cream. She loved spoiling her grandchildren & great grandchildren with the best gifts, coke floats, sticky donuts & kisses on the head.

She loved family gatherings with a good meal, family vacations at the beach, trips to the mountains to visit family,

also loved her fur babies over the years.

Mrs. West & her husband Freddie were high school sweethearts & was married for 68 years. They built a life together of faith, family, hard work & fun times with family & friends.

Surviving Martha’s death are her two daughters Tay Frey & Tonda Weaver. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Ashleigh (Scott) Shelley, Carrie (Doug) Carter & Jake (Casie) Mims.

Her great grandchildren, Emma, Jack & Owen Shelley, Carter Cayden & Kip Perkins, Hamp & Mabry Mims.

Two brothers, Henry L. (Buster) Hough & Sam Hough, sister Kathryn (Jimmy) Lucas.

In addition to her parents & husband, Martha is proceeding in death by her two sons-in-law, Danny Weaver & Johnny Frey.

The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Ruthphine Graham, Kim Goins & Linda McCray, also Diego and Solomon who helped kept Mrs. West yards maintained & beautiful.
