Marjorie Anne Phipps Tucker, age 82, of Darlington, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025 at Oakhaven Nursing Center.
Born April 26,1943 in Lake City, South Carolina, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Jimmie DeLeon Phipps and Ruth Flowers Phipps. She married Joseph Engrim Tucker, Jr., on October 9, 1967, and they made their home together in Darlington for 58 years.
She dedicated her life to her family, her church, and education. She graduated from Winthrop College and was an educator in Darlington County for her entire career teaching at James F Byrnes, St. John's Elementary, Cain Elementary, Pate Elementary and Lamar Elementary before her retirement. Through decades of service in the classroom, she inspired generations of students with her patience, encouragement, and genuine love of learning.
Marjorie was an active member of Darlington Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, taught children's Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and played handbells for many years. She also used her many creative talents for the church by weaving intricate Chrismon ornaments, sewing costumes for children's programs and adorning the bulletin boards for every season.
She loved being involved in the lives of her children. She was the den mother for cub scouts, was active with the band boosters and loved every minute of being a pageant mom with all the glitz and sparkle.
In retirement, she enjoyed sewing and quilting for as long as she could and opened her home and her heart to many cats or dogs that needed a loving home. Though Rheumatoid Arthritis attacked her body, she stayed active with water aerobics and swimming at the Y.
She is survived by her husband of the home, son Joey Tucker (Libby) of Lexington, SC and daughter Emily Tucker Magnus (Ryan) of Darlington as well as grandsons Jonathan Tucker and Finn Magnus. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Clary Phipps, Martha Tucker Poston, Janis Tucker and brother-in-law George Lyerly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jimmie D Phipps, Jr and sister Martha Phipps Lyerly.
A service celebrating Marjorie's life will be held at Darlington Presbyterian Church on Saturday November 15, 2025 at 11 AM with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park at 2:30 PM. The family will hold a visitation Friday November 14 at Belk Funeral Home from 6 - 7:30. Memorials may be made to Darlington Presbyterian Church in her memory. The family will be receiving visitors at other times at Emily & Ryan's home at 204 Roanoke Drive in Darlington.
Marjorie will be remembered for her dedication, her warmth, and the countless lives she shaped through her love of teaching. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Her family would like to say "Thank you" to Oakhaven and one of her special nurses, Lance Broach
