Madge Ann (Rabb) Hutchinson, age 86, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024. A visitation will be held in the fellowship hall of Trinity Methodist Church from the times of 1:30pm until 2:30pm on Friday, November 15th. A graveside service will take place at 3:00pm in Grove Hill Cemetery following the visitation.

Madge was born in Darlington on October 2, 1938 the daughter of the late Grace and Thomas Rabb Sr. She grew up in a large family of seven children.    She had a wonderful childhood with her siblings and good Christian parents.

Madge was a graduate of St. John's High School and Lander University.  She later married Bennie Elliott Hutchinson Sr.

They were blessed with two children to whom she was a very devoted mother.    She was a great cook and a very talented seamstress.  She made quite a few Easter dresses.

For many years Madge rode horses with her husband and son. She spent many afternoons enjoying a quiet ride along the dirt roads.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity Methodist Church in Darlington SC.  She would be in attendance every Sunday on the second row from the front until her health declined.  She loved Trinity and the people.  She instilled in her children a strong Christian faith. She was always kind and soft spoken.  She never said a curse word in her life.  She was proud of it too .

In addition to being a wonderful mother , her greatest joy was becoming a grandmother to her favorite grandson, Adam Miles.  They would often joke that he was her favorite, but he was also her only grandson.  They enjoyed many fun times and trips together.  Later she gained a beautiful, caring, granddaughter when Adam married Joice.  She loved them both very much.

She owned and operated Spring Mart along with her husband for many years. She was affectionately known as the hotdog or chili lady.  She made many hotdogs.  After her husband's passing she and her son ,Bennie operated Spring Mart until her retirement.

In her retirement years she enjoyed traveling on many cruises and trips with her sisters and a group of other Grandmothers.  Every summer this group of ladies would go on a Grandparent Cruise which they would take their grandchildren.  Her first cruise was to Alaska and Adam was included.    She also served as a volunteer at The Lord Cares Food Bank for many years.  There were many more memories made during this time in her life to cherish.

Madge is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee (Steve) Miles, grandson, Adam (Joice) Miles, her two sisters, Barbara Howle and Lou Spear and her two sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Andrews and Winnie Rabb who was a good friend to Madge. She is also survived by her caregivers who were like family to Madge, Rosa M. Robinson, Rita O'Neal and Lazil Coward.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Elliott Hutchinson, Sr. and her son Bennie Hutchinson, Jr.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Presbyterian Home in Florence for the wonderful love and care they gave to Madge.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Methodist Church at P.O Box 16 Darlington, SC 29540.
