Lucius Hiers

Darlington -- Lucius Hiers, age 92, died December 21, 2017 in Florence, SC after several years of declining health. The family will hold a private burial Friday, December 22nd at Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. He was born January 6, 1925 in Williston, SC to Bertha Renew Hiers and Robert Gary Hiers. He served in the US Army in Japan shortly after World War II, was a member of the VFW, was a 50 year Mason, and a member of Central Baptist Church in Darlington, SC. He worked in the wholesale meat packing business for over forty years. He is predeceased by his wife, Ernestine Fanning Hiers and his daughter, Karen Elizabeth Hiers Woodring. He is survived by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ross of Columbia, a nephew, Thomas Gary Hiers, of Sullivans Island, and three grand nephews, John Rainwater of Florence, Thomas Rainwater of Mount Pleasant, and Gary Hiers of Mount Pleasant.
