Leona Howell Amerson, age 83, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at her residence surrounded by family. A visitation will be held in Belk Funeral Home Lamar from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Saturday, July 13th. A funeral service will take place in Will of Faith Southern Methodist Church on Sunday, July 14th at 3:00pm, burial will follow the service in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Leona was born in Darlington County on May 17, 1941, daughter of the late Willie Howell and Elise Howell. Leona worked at Dixie Cup for over 30 years and was a very active member of her church, Will of Faith. During her faithful years with her church she was the church secretary and treasurer for over 40 years. Mrs. Amerson truly loved her family; she always enjoyed the time spent with them.
Surviving Leona is her Husband of 63 years Thomas "Tommy" Amerson, her daughter, Susan (Johnny) McLeod, grandchildren, John McLeod, III, Christine McLeod, Amanda McLeod, and Matthew McLeod. She is also survived by her siblings, Rev. George (Barbara Ann) Howell, Bessie Broach, Martha Gibbs, Bobbie (Rev. Carol) Joye, Jimmy (Rita) Howell, Bettina (Jerald) Buie, Leon (Connie) Howell, Henry (Jean) Howell and Margaret (Michael) Kelley, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Leona is preceded in death by her son, Thomas "Tommy" Amerson, Jr. and her sisters, Rebecca Crapse and Patsy Alexander.
