Lenwood J. Hayes of the Oates Community, died Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from injuries sustained from an accident. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, August 21 at Elim United Methodist Church, 3900 Oates Hwy. Lamar, officiated by Rev. Wes Conner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3-4 pm, at the church, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Born in Williamsburg County SC, he was the son of the late John Eli and Camilla Snow Hayes. Lenwood retired From NUCOR and was a part time truck driver for Jones Brothers Transport. He was an avid Gamecock and Carolina Panther Fan. He was most proud of being a Cancer Survivor and a Member of Elim United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He also loved hearing his wife play the piano.
Surviving are his wife Judy Raines Hayes of Oates, a son, Bruce (Dianna) Hayes of Oates, three grandchildren: Emma (Adam) Windham, Zane Hayes, Kayla Hayes all of Oates; three brothers: Jimmy Hayes, Claude (Deloris) Hayes both of Philadelphia, PA, Marion (Dale) Hayes of Myrtle Beach, David Hayes of Florence; half-brother, Frank (Debbie) Mahoney Hayes of Johnsonville, half-sisters: Mary (Ronnie) Altman of Florence, Connie Rogers of Johnsonville, Ida Ruth "Pigeon" (Rocky) McCutcheon of Lake City, sister-in-law, Janice Byrd, nieces: Nancy (Henry) Bustle, Dia (Bryan) Dooley; a "special granddaughter", Madi Dooley, and his fur friends: Flacko and Jezebel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Jody Hayes, brothers: Isaac Hayes, Jesse Hayes; sister: Mellie Lou Kelley, infant brothers, Tommy Snow Hayes and Joe Mahoney Hayes.
