Lawrence H. Melton, Sr.

Lawrence H. Melton, Sr., age 75 died Wednesday, March 9, 2022. A funeral service will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, March 13th in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following at Berea Baptist Church Cemetery in Oates Community, SC. The family will receive friends from 3-4 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Born on June 18, 1946, Lawrence was the son of the late Rogers H. Melton and Viola Stokes Melton. He was employed with Sonoco Products Company until his retirement. Lawrence loved to sing and enjoyed preaching and singing with his wife and with The Melton Quartet, spreading their beliefs in the Lord with music, and taught Sunday school in many churches. He also enjoyed carpentry work. Lawrence was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving are his sons, Lawrence Melton, Jr. of Darlington, Jonathan (Denise) Melton of Sumter, and Brandon (Ashley) Melton of Hartsville; grandchildren , Kayla (Robert), April, Ashley, Katelyn, Abigail, and David Melton, Shea (Neil) Reynolds, and Gracyn Iler; two great-grandchildren Gracie and Alex, brother, James (Barbara) Melton; and sister, Doris Windham.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda H. Melton, who died in 2019; brothers, Donnie Joe Melton and Billy Melton; and a sister, Linda Grace Byrd.
