Laura Joyce (Boykin) Morris

Laura Joyce Boykin Morris, age 71, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 10, 2023, after an extended illness. By her side was her loving husband of almost 53 years, Thomas "Tommy" Jessie Morris.

Laura was born in Darlington, SC to the late Janet Watford (Weatherford) and Whitaker "Buoy" Boykin on August 20, 1951. She was the third of four children and attended St. John's High School. In addition to her parents, Laura is preceded in death by two of her siblings, Barbara Smith, and Jerry Boykin.

On November 1, 1970, Laura married Tommy and had three children: Holly, Becky, and Josh. During their childhood, she was the family cake baker and decorator and provided beautiful cakes for many occasions. She loved tacos, the mountains, and music, especially the Beatles and Rod Stewart, and she had an extensive album collection. She also loved a good scare. She loved a good scary movie, Stephen King novels, all things Halloween, a good ghost story, and scaring the neighborhood kids. If you trick-or-treated her house on Halloween for many years, she made sure Tommy was dressed in a costume and hiding in the holly bush, ready to scare unsuspecting kids.

As the children got older, she began working and became manager of Rite Aid Drug Store/Eckerd Drug. She worked there for many years until she retired. She had three grand boys, Walker and Wyatt Brown and Colton Morris and loved them dearly.

In addition to her husband, she leaves behind her three children: Holly (Joe) Kinard of Hartsville, Becky (Scott) Outlaw of Florence, and Josh (Ashley) Morris of Darlington, grandchildren: Walker Brown, Wyatt Brown, Colton Morris, and brother Larry (Cheryl) Boykin of Darlington.

The family would like to thank the loving caregivers that have taken care of Laura: Lib Gainey, kindhearted sister-in-law; and Terry Johnson, who provided steadfast comfort and companionship during these last months. We would also like to thank Stacy and Shameka from McLeod Hospice for their faithful care over the past year. They are all truly angels on earth.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, April 12 at Belk Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, April 13 at 4:00pm in Grove Hill Cemetery.
