Larry Byrd

Larry Daniel Byrd, age 57, passed away Monday, November 19, 2018. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25th in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following in Darlington Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at the home, 205 Athol St. Darlington. Born March 2, 1961, Larry is the son of the late Joe Byrd and Vivian Brown Byrd. He previously worked at NUCOR, then drove a truck for Pepsi and Land-Air. Larry most recently worked for Darlington County Waste Management. He was formerly involved with Darlington City Fire Department where he was awarded for saving a life from a burning car at the Darlington Dragstrip. Larry enjoyed camping, being outdoors, and was an animal lover. Larry loved to entertain friends during the race and was proud of his '69 Firebird. Surviving are his wife, Sherry McCrea Byrd; children, Maggie Wheeler of Darlington and Daniel Byrd of Darlington; grandson, Michael Wheeler; special aunt and uncle, Martin and Martha Byrd; special cousin, Eddie and Lee Anne Byrd; special cousin Susie Williams. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Darlington City Fire Department, 301 Orange Street, Darlington, SC 29532
