It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kimberly "Kim" Renae Lussier, beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend, on March 22, 2025, at the age of 54.
Kim was born on May 29, 1970, in Darlington, SC to Gloria Welch Lussier (from Darlington) and Danny Lussier (from Cheraw, SC). At age 9, Kim moved with her mother to Palatine, IL.
Kim proved to be exceptionally bright and was always part of the gifted and talented programs in her schools. She also trained and competed in the top-notch Palatine Gymnastics program. She won numerous ribbons, medals and trophies through the years, and she placed in several events, as well as the all-around competition, in the Illinois State Gymnastics Championship.
She graduated from Fremd High School in Palatine and attended Harper College. She then moved to the Myrtle Beach, SC area, where her father lived until he retired. Her gymnastics talent served her well when she was a young bartender in Myrtle Beach, who could pour a drink while executing a one-handed handstand leaning against the bar pole. That move was a major tip generator.
Kim was beautiful on the outside, and she also had a kind heart, a bubbly personality, and a selfless nature. Her infectious laugh brightened any room, and she will be remembered for her generosity, warmth, and the love she gave to those around her.
She loved spending time at the beach, where she found peace and tranquility. Kim had a special love for animals, so much so that she never could turn away a stray cat.
Kim accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in 1979. The Mother's Day card she sent her mother last year said, "Two things I've always been able to count on are God's never-ending presence and your love."
Kim is survived by her mother, Gloria Welch Lussier of Florence, SC, and her father, Danny Lussier (Mary) of Sevierville, TN. She is also survived by her brother, Chris Lussier, and uncles, David Welch (Florence), Andy Welch (Jan), Tim Lussier (Debbie), Mike Lussier (Janice); and cousins on both sides of her family. She was always especially close to her cousin, John David Welch. She had a special friend, David Colon, and she also adored his daughter, Evelyn. She also loved her long-time dear friend, Howard Burroughs.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 6th, 2025, at Belk Funeral Home in Darlington, SC at 4pm, after a private graveside service at Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington.
Kim loved flowers, so flowers would be appreciated. As an alternative, donations may be made to the Grand Strand Humane Society at the Tanger Outlets, Hwy 501, Myrtle Beach, SC.
