Joseph L. Oliver

Joseph L. "Jody" Oliver, age 89, passed away on Friday morning at his residence surrounded by family. A visitation will take place from 11:00am until 12:00pm on Monday, July 1st at Calvary Baptist Church in Florence. A funeral will follow the visitation at 12:00pm in the church. A private family-only burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Jody was born in Florence on May 3, 1935, he is the son of the late Rev. Vince Oliver and Cleo Morrell Oliver, he is the last of twelve children and was one of the youngest to enter the Connie-Maxwell Home at age two. Jody served in the United States Navy, The United States Coast Guard and was a Korean War Veteran. After getting out of the service Jody worked for CSX Railroad for 47 years until his retirement. Jody served as a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church where he was a member and went on many mission trips for the church, was also involved in the Men's Ministry and Cooks for Christ. Jody always loved being on the water fishing with his family and friends. He will be remembered as someone who never met a stranger

Surviving Jody is his wife of 63 years, Janet Lummer Oliver, his children, Julie (Brian) Anderson, Joseph "Joel" (Rankin) Oliver, Jennifer Dobbins and her fiancé Chris Branch, Sally (Cliff) Cormell, his grandchildren, Zachary (Logan) Anderson, Seth Oliver, Kirby (Jake) Billingsley, Corey (Tiffany) Dobbins, Hannah (Gage Jordan) Dobbins, Megan Anderson, great-grandchildren, Blayne Anderson, Baylor Anderson, Brian Anderson, Cayden Haselden, Brayden Haselden, Saylor Dobbins, Weston Dobbins, Sunny Anderson.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Amedysis Hospice for the wonderful care they provide for Mr. Oliver.
