DARLINGTON- Rev. Joseph A. Heck, Sr. age 84, died Saturday, October 20, at the McLeod Hospice House. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, October 23, with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Born in New Orleans, LA on May 18, 1934, Rev. Heck was the son of the late Joseph W. and Anna Luthens Heck. He served in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict, and then graduated from Southern Methodist College in 1976. He pastored at many area churches during his ministry. Rev. Heck was a member of the VFW and Timmonsville Southern Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Cooley Heck, a son, Joseph (Ellen) Heck, Jr. of Bath, NC, a daughter, Kathleen (Robert) Sinclair of Darlington, grandchildren: Phillip (Cameron) Heck, Benjamin (Grace) Heck, Travis (Julie) Sinclair, Sarah Sinclair, Beverly (Jeryl) Allen, great-grandchildren: Eric Heck, Brandon Heck, Olivia Heck, Karsyn Heck, Sarah Ellen Allen, Shelby Allen and a host of other family members.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Heck of Slidell, LA.
