Jonah Alexander Byrd, a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend, passed away on Saturday, March 15th, 2025. Born on December 8, 1998, in Florence, SC, Jonah was the cherished son of Christopher Lee Byrd and Elizabeth Valines.
Jonah graduated from West Florence High School in 2017, where he was known for his determination and commitment to his work. He went on to become a surveyor, a profession he was passionate about, and built a reputation for his strong work ethic and precision in his craft.
Outside of work, Jonah enjoyed gaming, forming lasting friendships and connections within the gaming community. His love for gaming brought him joy and was an important part of his life. He also enjoyed playing hockey in his youth and watching hockey games on tv, when he couldn't see them in person.
Jonah leaves behind his parents, Christopher Lee Byrd and Elizabeth Valines, his two brothers, Brendan Byrd of Florence and Thomas Byrd of Fort Jackson, his grandparents Odell and Annette Byrd of Florence, his aunt Crystel Byrd, and his nephew Micah Ouzts. Including his aunt Jenalee and uncle Erik Ofstie, cousins Ansel and Soren Ofstie, his step siblings Ava Peace and Amayah Valines. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents. Jonah was never married but will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him for his kind heart, sense of humor, and generosity.
A visitation for friends and family will be held at Belk Funeral Home in Darlington, SC, on Saturday, March 22nd, from 6 to 8 pm. A memorial service to celebrate Jonah's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Florence Humane Society in his honor at www.florencehumanesociety.org to carry on his love for animals.
